AT THE LISBON ZOO

Do you like going to the zoo? I am not sure how I feel about such kind of places. On one hand, I love spending my time there, but on the other hand, each visit identifies my financial support for this capitalist world in which the end justifies the means.

Humanity has already done pretty bad things to the nature - cutting down trees, clearing the land for farming, haunting animals for food, jewellery, talismans or amulets are only some of myriad examples.

And now we are taking these great animals from their natural environment against their will, depriving them of the possibility of their own choice and giving them an illusion of freedom.

For what?
For human entertainment?

I was impressed with the show of dolphins and sea lions as well as the possibility to watch the zoo from a cable car, but they did not clean my memory of sad eyes looking at me through the cages.

And once again the sins of the parents are visited upon the children.
